Jackie has made several interviews in the media, some of which are printed below. As links to the sources have a tendency to go rotten, I have chosen to reproduce the texts in full. In addition there was a 4-page article in Heat magazine 05-11 Jun 1999 which I haven't got hold of yet. The Heaven and Earth ShowThis is an interview given by Jackie McAuliffe of BBC1's Fly-on-the-wall documantry Paddington Green. Shown on on BBC1, Sunday 24th of January 1999. [This video has unfortunately gone off-line.]
BBC Online - Celebrity ChoiceJackie McAuliffe became a regular face on the TV last year when she was featured on the BBC documentary Paddington Green. The nation followed Jackie's life including her struggle to attain gender realignment . The new series, about to start on BBC1, follows her progress as her new life unfolds. Jackie says "Most of my life has been spent getting through my gender problems. Only now am I finding out what I'm interested in, what I like or what I don't like." Jackie's only experience of the Net has been through using an Internet cafe, but here are two sites that reflect some of her interests. JS BACH HOMEPAGE INTERNET MENTAL HEALTH
Page 31... Life takes off for fly-on-wall stars...Jackie McAuliffe became Britain's most famous transsexual prostitute in docu-soap Paddington Green. But after the series Jackie, who used her vice earnings to pay for sex-change operations, signed with showbiz agent Dave Warwick. She has already released an album of her piano playing, which got to No 14 in the charts. And now she's writing an autobiography. Jackie, 29, said: "I never expected a turnaround like this. I'm so very fortunate."
Jackie's early years as JasonObserver news story 6, June 26, 2000 (contents of linked article now changed) Poignant memories of a childhood in High Wych were revealed this week by transsexual former prostitute and star of the BBC's docu-soap Paddington Green, Jackie McAuliffe. In a 30-minute special broadcast on Monday [June 26, 2000], she recalled happier times living in a five-bedroom house with a music room and two pianos. Her love of music has now given her new hope for the future and she has recorded a CD of classical pieces on piano. Before her gender re-assignment surgery, Jackie was a boy called Jason who was fostered by the former head of Sawbridgeworth's Leventhorpe School Norman Bradley and his wife, Anna, a children's author. In BBC1's Jackie's Story, she said that she no longer blamed her parents or her foster parents for her difficulties later in life. The Bradleys moved to New Zealand more than a year ago to live near their daughter. Mr Bradley was head at the Cambridge Road secondary for 23 years until he retired in 1988. Jackie also recalled how, as Jason, she endured bullying and taunts and said: "I had a little boy's dream years ago that I wanted something and I've got that something." While still male, Jason was a pupil at High Wych Primary and Harlow's Mark Hall School before studying at Harlow College. Jackie became a prostitute to fund plastic surgery and said in the programme: "If you want something that bad, you'll go out and get it. And I wanted something bad enough and I was prepared to do what I did to get it and it's as simple as that." She has not worked as a prostitute for more than 18 months and has left Paddington Green. She now lives in west London. Bridget Sneyd, the show's executive producer, said: "The public response to Jackie's appearance on Paddington Green was extraordinary. Somehow her particular combination of feisty opinion and vulnerability transcended prejudice against both her change of gender and her occupation as a hooker." The Mirror"Everyone thinks i've got it made after being on tv, but i'm on the dole and broke ... Sometimes i'm tempted to be a hooker again." Paddington Green hooker Jackie McAuliffe seemed set for a life of stardom and riches after shooting to fame on the hit TV series. | |||||||||
